How to Detoxify Your Skin for a Smooth Summer Glow
Medical medium silica
Summertime, woohoo! Hot sun, vacations, and cookouts and picnics with healing foods! Shorts, tank tops, bathing suits, and lots of silky smooth summer skin. That’s the goal, right?
Here at Reclaimers of Health, I field a lot of questions related to skin, particularly in the summertime. So many of my clients want to feel the GLOW that they once felt. Additionally, there are so many products that fail to live up to their promises to eliminate problems like wrinkles, under-eye circles, acne, and more, and I realize that it can be a challenge to weed out the most accurate information about how to obtain that prized silky, smooth summer skin.
Here’s the bottom line — It’s an inside job!!
“When it comes to figuring out why we have loose skin, blemishes, liver spots, and other skin problems, we have to dive below the surface and assess what’s going on underneath the epidermis.” – Anthony
To condense the phenomenal information obtained from Anthony William’s books , in order to have healthy skin, we need to ensure that we first have healthy livers. Wrinkles and other skin problems that most say “come with age” are actually related to the toxicity of our livers. These organs can be loaded with toxins from heavy metals, plastics, and more, and not just from the exposures from our lifetimes. Sadly, toxic livers are often exacerbated by toxins passed down through the generations. Quite often when acne is involved, we’ve got to address underlying strep infections. In the case of eczema, we’re frequently dealing with heavy metals as well as a virus or viruses.
In addition, Anthony shares that adrenaline can also create liver issues and negatively affect the health of your skin. We all have come across very difficult and emotional times in life such as losing loved ones, breakups, financial setbacks, and more. During these times, adrenaline has the ability to flood our systems, hinder our livers (among other organs), and impact our skin!
As women, we are also often told that “hormonal acne” or acne that comes with our cycle is normal. In reality, the immune system drops during a period, leaving room for viruses such as strep to wreak havoc, which for many women means acne.
So what can we do?? To start, we’ve got to start cleaning out the toxins!!
Ridding your liver of pesticides, heavy metals, and other toxins can transform the health of your liver and skin. One great way to remove these toxins is by consuming the top five foods for detoxifying heavy metals from the body daily – wild blueberries, cilantro, spirulina, barley grass juice extract powder, and Atlantic dulse. Consistently including all of these components in your daily diet can be a powerful way to reclaim your health and support your skin.
Reduce your fat intake
Avoid fried foods, eggs, and dairy, and try to keep your fat intake low (too much fat in the diet will burden the liver).
If meat and/or fish are a part of your diet, try to limit it, avoiding pork completely. Keep in mind that the lower your fat intake, the more opportunity for your body to consume liver-cleansing fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables.
If on a plant-based diet, you can also reduce your fat by minimizing oils and reducing avocados, nuts, and seeds.
Don’t forget to replace the fat with fruits and vegetables in order to maintain your calorie intake!
Foods and minerals to seek out for improvement of skin
Beta-carotene is critical for healthy skin and is found in a number of fruits and vegetables. Foods high in beta-carotene include mangoes, papayas, mamey sapote, sweet potatoes, and leafy greens such as spinach. In addition, raspberries and colorful melon varieties are rich in beta-carotene.
Silica is super important for your skin as well.
Anthony has shared that there are two different types of silica, one type offers tremendous support for the bones while the other variety is particularly helpful for the skin. This second variety of silica can be found in vegetables such as asparagus and artichokes. The stems of kale also contain this silica. Horsetail and nettle possess both varieties of silica and when you ingest either herb, your liver separates out the two kinds of silica and delivers each to the area they best support. A high-quality silica supplement that focuses on supporting bone health can be beneficial as well. This supplement typically offers a number of extra benefits alongside bone health support. Try these brands: Orgonoand MegaHydrate.
HYDRATION also has a huge impact on our skin. Lemon water is excellent, as is increasing your water intake by eating fresh fruit and juicing. Drink both 16oz of straight celery juice as well as straight cucumber juice (separately) each day to promote liver and skin health.
Keep in mind that grazing all day (rather than eating large meals with big gaps between meals) will support our adrenals and ultimately, have a positive impact on our skin!
Now that you’re addressing the toxins from within, I am happy to share with you some of my favorite external products. For as hard as Reclaimers of Health clients are working to improve what’s on the inside, it only makes sense to match the cleanliness and purity on the outside.
I love AnnMarie Gianni skincare. To quote them, “one of the best ways to begin to transform your skin’s health is through switching to natural, clean products. Our line at Annmarie Skin Care features plant-based, organic, and wildcrafted ingredients that feed your skin and nourish your glow.” They even have some sample kits on their page if you want to try them before spending on their full-sized products.

I also love Mary Ruth’s products, such as these:

As adults, we’ve sadly all inherited and acquired toxins that have had varied impacts on our skin. I hope you are able to apply the information presented above and begin (or continue) to tackle your skin from the inside out, and also add some bonus work with organic and pure products on the outside.
Lastly, I am happy to share that in my upcoming course, I will be discussing skincare for KIDS. The course begins in August, I hope to see you there. If you’re interested in getting more information about the course, join our interest list.
