Calendula All-Healing Cream
Calendula can be used in a tea, tincture, or extract, but today we are going to focus on my favorite “all healing” cream! Calendula is known for its remarkable healing properties, and when incorporated into a cream, can become an excellent remedy for dry, flaky, or inflamed skin.
Calendula has antiviral properties and supports the immune and lymphatic system. This is a huge win if you are dealing with eczema, psoriasis, or any other skin condition. As you are getting to the root cause of these issues, this cream can be both topical and lymphatic support.
This calendula cream is a multipurpose and can be used as a diaper salve, face cream, massage oil, lip balm, first aid cream, or all over body cream.
Calendula All-Healing Cream
Ingredients
- Calendula flowers
- Olive oil
- Shea butter
- Mango butter
- Jojoba oil
- Beeswax
Instructions
To Infuse Your Olive Oil:
- Place herbs in a crockpot pot or a double boiler. Leave at least 2 inches of space for oil above the herbs.
- For double boiler – Fill a large pot with water. Be sure your bowl fits over the pot. You want the water high enough to create steam, but you don’t want the water touching the glass.
- Pour oil over the herbs.
- Bring water to a boil, then place on low. Infuse for 5-ish hours or until the oil takes on the color and smell of the herbs. The goal is not to cook the ingredients, but to let the herbs release into the oil.
- Strain through a strainer or mesh bag.
Making the Cream
- Get your double boiler ready. Again, you want a bowl on top of a pot of simmering water. You don’t want the pot touching the water.
- Boil water and bring down to low.
- Add 1.5 oz of calendula-infused extra virgin olive oil, 1/4 oz jojoba oil, 1 oz Shea butter, 1 oz mango butter, 1/4 oz beeswax.
- Slowly heat and melt while stirring.
- When beeswax is melted, remove from heat.
- Do not let cool, immediately whip with an electric hand mixer until mixture becomes light and fluffy.
- Lastly, place in air tight jars ! Store with plastic or silicone lids.
Notes
You could also use coconut oil, but this creates an additional step because you have to melt it first.
Alternatively, you could skip the flowers and olive oil and start with this: Organic Calendula & Chamomile Infused in Organic Golden Jojoba Oil.
